Client & Architect Childs & Sulzmann Architects
Despite its highly prominent position in the city of Bristol, the Grade II* Royal West of England Academy had for many years shrunk into the background of the cityscape. Childs & Sulzmann Architects have re-imagined the whole approach to and journey through this incredible building, giving it a far more open and welcoming appearance, together with a much improved interior that is not only accessible, but also provides a significantly improved visitor experience. The project has enabled the gallery to welcome people who might previously have walked straight past the building, maybe even not realising what it was.
It was a true honour to photograph this building, inside and out, while I also had to take great care to ensure I fully did it justice.
