A Community of Steel

A Social Documentary Project

This project is a real departure for me, and has challenged me in many ways (and continues to). My aim is to photographically document Port Talbot as an industrial community in the 21st century - its people, landscape, economy and leisure. The pretext is to establish if community and industry are still connected in the way that they are traditionally remembered. People in Wales (and elsewhere) often talk of the communities that grew up around coal mines - life revolved around the pit both economically and socially.

I’ve already met some wonderful people, and the project has been well supported so far. I’m hoping my images will reflect the welcome, enthusiasm and passion I’ve experienced, alongside illustrating some of the challenges that the town faces.

There’s more about this project in my Stories section, and I post updates on my Facebook page for the project and on my personal projects Instagram page.
