Cambridge central mosque

D-Line manufactures beautiful, timeless architectural ironmongery that can be found in some of the world’s most prestigious and highly designed buildings, as well as plenty of more humble locations. So, I was honoured when they asked me to photograph two of their recent projects.

The first was Cambridge Central Mosque. Architects Marks Barfield were the successful entrants to an international design competition held in 2009, that saw their design for the Mosque become reality. Bringing together influences from both English and Islamic religious architecture, their design set out to create the UK’s first truly sustainable Mosque.

As well as being the recipient of multiple awards, the building was shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize - a prestigious annual architectural competition renowned for its high standards.

D-Line supplied all the architectural ironmongery for the project, gracing some very fine joinery and decorative veneer work, as well as providing less visible functional equipment such as door operating mechanisms.

Sadly, on the day of my visit, the area was hit with some extremely heavy rain, however the interior provided a wealth of opportunities for photographs.
